A “class” is a profession or vocation for a character, determining the capabilities of that character with regards to combat training, magical ability, skills, and more. Classes can be of three types:
- Base: (also known as “core classes”) are those classes that can be taken at character creation;
- Prestige: are those classes that have requirements (other than alignment restrictions) that must be met before a player character can gain levels in the class;
- Divine: they are special classes that are not directly selectable but can only be acquired if you have achieved particular combinations of feats, levels in a certain base or prestige class, ability points, and so on.
